The 23 year old Sims was selected 21st overall of the 2012 MLB Draft. The Atlanta Braves are known for picking prospects out of their backyard, and the same could be said of Sims. He was born May 10th, 1994 in Lawrenceville, GA. He was a standout at Brookwood High School in Georgia.
Sims has had an up and down Braves’ career. He ranked in the top 10 Braves’ prospects for many years during the reign of Frank Wren. He was a top 100 MLB prospect in 2014 and 2015 according to the MLB.com prospect list. He then fell off due to inconsistency. Sims was a part of that horrific Carolina Mudcats bus crash, and it caused the Braves’ to question him even more.
In 2017, however, Sims has taken a huge leap forward. He has spent the entire season pitching for AAA Gwinnett. Sims has gone 7-4 with a 3.82 ERA. He led the league with 132 strikeouts, and paired this number with only 36 walks.
Sims made his MLB debut on 8/1/2017, tossing a quality start against one of the best teams in baseball. What I liked most about Sims’ debut, was his presence on the mound. He appeared fearless, even when falling behind or allowing a hit. Sims attacked the strike zone and kept his composure for the entirety of the game. I think Sims is on track to be a solid MLB contributor, whether it be in the rotation, or the bullpen.

I will have you know that Benjamin does look in shape and has been running routes well at training camp. He's had a few bad drops during training camp, but he has worked ha...
